Fully Finished Gallery SAL - February

 Hi Everyone,

Popping in to join Rachel of Ten Hour Stitcher for her Fully Finished Gallery SAL, where we can show our work that has been completely finished since last month´s check-in.

My fully finished disaster of this month is the book cover which I mentioned in a recent  post and which was destined to cover a future cookery book for my granddaughter.

I had embroidered two different patterns  and chose to use the smaller design and to combine it with  some of my GD favourite fabric colours .

Amongst my embroidery threads, I had some silk floss which I had bought cheaply from a local shop that was closing down and decided to use the bright and glossy plum coloured DMC 30915.

However, my finished embroidery  certainly didn´t turn out bright and shiny at all and while using this floss I learnt that before stitching one should use water to dampen the thread with ones fingers , so to keep the stitches even.

I was going to add some récipes and fotos and lots of pretty pages to the cookery book

but I didn´t really stop and think enough ......

………  my granddaughter is a very young lady and needs something light, bright and fun and  not  `so Victorian´ as my daughter so sincerely pointed out when I gave her a sneak peek of the proposed layout

She is right of course, so the cover has been sent in disgrace to the Dreaded Drawer, never again to see the light of day….. well no …no need to get carried away here, but out of my sight for the moment  whilst I plan something a bit more youthful and modern

In the meantime, plenty to keep me busy, with Valentine´s Day sewing  and Spring just around the corner.

See you soon

Sheryl

  1. Oh Sheryl, what a shame that the cover didn't make the grade - I would have given it A+.

  2. It's lovely Sheryl, why don't you use it to record your favourite recipes so she has Grandma's Cookbook to treasure.

  3. I agree with Clare-Aimetu - a great place to put your own favourite recipes. xx

  6. I think the cover is so beautiful and your daughter might be mistaken about your grandaughter's reaction. I think you should use it for yourself...too pretty to go into a drawer.

  7. I think sometimes we are our own worst critics. I agree that the cover deserves an A+. I have always melted with those shades of lilac and purple and I love the inclusion of the lace doily. Beautiful work my friend.

  8. I agree with Clare, make the book into an heirloom for her. It's a lovely book and so well made it's a shame not to see it used.

  9. Finish and use it for yourself, then it won't be in the Dreaded Drawer!

  10. I hope you will keep it and use it with your own recipes, I am persuaded that your granddaughter will appreciate it in a few years' time. After all, the Victorian touch is so trendy again with all recently released movies and series. The cyclical nature of tastes and fashions may bring your book back into favour sooner than you think!

  11. I bet your granddaughter will come to appreciate the cover, Sheryl--especially since it was made by you. Maybe not right now... but keep it around. I bet her tastes will mature :) It is very pretty and I hope it comes out of the Dreaded Drawer soon! Enjoy your week ♥

  12. Nope, that does NOT belong in any dreaded drawer! You should definitely use it, maybe even adding some small stitching pieces like a scrapbook? I'm sure she will treasure it later.

  13. After all your work, it's too pretty to be put in a drawer. I like Clare's idea of using it to include your favourite recipes for future generations.

  14. It certainly is not a disaster; I think it is beautiful! I am so sorry it didn't get to go to your granddaughter as you planned. Maybe you can use it as to add recipes to for when your granddaughter gets older. She is probably making simpler recipes now which can go in the new book and then this one can be for some more complicated family recipes. I am sure she would appreciate a second volume!

  15. Thank you for joining in this month. I agree with everyone else; it's gorgeous and certainly not a disaster. Using it for your own favourite recipes to pass down is a brilliant idea and perfectly suited to the design. It's a really good excuse not to leave it in the Dreaded Drawer! :)

  16. Обложка очень красивая! Надеюсь она найдет свое применение на другом блокноте или книге. ))

  17. Goodness! I think it's absolutely darling! And I polled my daughters ages 8 and 11 and they love it. They said it was "cute" "pretty" and "I like the colors." So...maybe after a while finish your plan for the photos and recipes because something like this is really a treasure and heirloom, especially when made with so much love!

  18. Dear Sheryl, the book cover is beautiful and think about it. Your Granddaughter will use it for the rest of her life and we may only stay young in our hearts.

  19. One more vote for absolutely not a desaster! It's pretty and I don't think I'd have frowned at receiving this as a child either. Hope you'll put it to good use!

  20. Well, I am going to be the one to say it, "Your daughter should be ashamed of herself". My daughters would have never said anything like that about something I had made with love. My granddaughters both would love the cover. I say finish it and wrap it up and gift it to her anyway. Your daughter might just be surprised at the granddaughters reaction to it.
