One of those days

Hello blogger friends,  Do you ever have one of those days when you at last have time to sit down and get some sewing done and absolutely nothing goes right ? or you don´t like the result and in the end the time is wasted?  Well, I have had quite a few of those days recently.

It has taken me ages to get this pretty Veronique Enginger design sewn into something useful.

I started the pattern in July and thought I would use it to cover a small basket I have in the bathroom which holds brushes and combs.

but after chopping up the design to fit the basket, I didn´t like the result, so I delved into my stash and found some matching fabric

some pretty buttons, a bit of lace, a tassel and a zipper.

and made a lined bag to hold stockings and tights.

Apart from that sewing hiccup, I have been busy with the blackwork design called Box of Delights, a free design which can be found here. and I am also stitching Twelve Days of Christmas by Paulette Stewart, another free design found here.

This is my progress on the Box of Delights.

I chose blue/purple colours to match some tiles I have in the kitchen, and this is for a kitchen tray, but I am not very keen on the black surround which I find too heavy for the colours I am using, so might end up covering the dark stitches with fabric, we will see.

Hope you are all busy stitching, thank you for passing by.

  3. Your Veronique Enginger design is such a pretty pattern. You never know how things will work when you first set out designing a sewing project!

Your tray cloth is lovely, and the black border sets it off delightfully!

  7. I know just what you mean about time wasted when your first idea just doesn't work out. But you sure found a beautiful way to use that stitchery. Love how you put it together with such pretty fabric and trim.

You've picked some nice SAL projects. The blackwork (not all black of course) looks great so far.

  11. Beautiful VE finish!!:) It has happened with me many times that what I plan doesn't turn out well practically.
Box of delights is looking beautiful!! I have seen it on Tiffany's blog and thought of stitching that but I already have loads of WIPs which I am struggling with. I actually like that black border. I think you should keep it. If you feel the colour is strong on the entire piece may be you can remove a part of it and try with another colour.

  17. The stocking bag is so pretty and delicate. Love it! The Box of Delights looks like it is a sampler of different stitches. It is going to be so pretty when it is done. The black does look a little heavy but once all of the stitching is done you might just find that it frames the pieces perfectly!

  23. That blue stitchery is so pretty! I know the feeling when nothing goes right. I just started the latest attempt at a sock that I've already unravelled twice. If the first one in the pair wasn't done, I'd give up entirely.

  24. This blue bag is luscious. What a lovely mistake and what a find for your stockings and tights! Your Halloween pouch from the last post is delightful. I love the colors you are doing with the black work piece. I haven't the patience for black work, but I appreciate the intricate work it takes. Hope the holidays season is beautiful for you and your family!

  25. I've had days like that too lately... for me it seems like it just is taking so much longer to do projects than I think they will even when they do work out the way I want them to and then I get behind on others, etc, etc. Turning your stitched piece into a zipped bag was a lovely solution!

Thanks so much for linking up to this week's Stitchery Link Party and for the link back. Aloha hugs!
