Whilst most of Spain is enjoying a wonderful summer with hot sunny days and temperatures sometimes just too high for comfort, those of us who live on the north coast have been rationed with only four days of sun during July and about the same this month, so I have had plenty of time during my summer break, between journeys and visitors, to get some UFOs finished.
In the Dreaded Drawer, I found a tiny embroidered design and decided to make an ornament.
A very simple pattern with an unremembered original destiny, so to add a little interest, I delved into the button box and found some ideal mother of pearl buttons.
which I added very generously to a piece of lace which was then trimmed and used to surround the ornament.
and I like it, really like the result and have it hanging by my bed, so I will probably use it as a pincushion when I embroider in the evenings.
I´m only one day late to join Heather at Stitching Lotus for the August Smalls SAL check-in, so if you have some little design or embroidered piece that you would like to show, just head over to Heather for the details.
Until next week, happy stitching.
Sheryl

Your dreaded drawer holds some secret pretties, Sheryl. This ornament is beautiful. I love the sweet embroidery and the lace with the buttons....perfect! How sad the sun hasn't showed up much in your little part of the world this Summer.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! What is a "dreaded drawer?" Sounds interesting! You always make the most unusual things out of simple items! So creative. You are a true artist!
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming ornament, love the buttons on the lace.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. Love the buttons on the lace.
ReplyDeleteOh my! that is just so gorgeous, love it. We had a dodgy couple of weeks at the beginning of August but we are back in a heat wave now. The ground is so dry as we have had very little rain really. There is a storm brewing as I write but I am sure there will just be lots of lightning and thunder and a few drips of rain. xx PS You must link your pin cushion up with the Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade - it is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely ornament! Great use of buttons.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty finish with the buttons.

ReplyDeleteSuch a darling finish, Sheryl! The buttons really add so much interest and finish it off perfectly :)
ReplyDeleteYour summer sounds like ours--I really feel quite cheated as we have had nothing but cool, gloomy days with way too much rain this summer. And our September looks no better. Oh well, good stitching weather :)
It's charming - the buttons make a lovely addition to the trimming, as well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ornament, Sheryl! The roses are so pretty! I love it! I am sure it will be a great pincushion, too. I really like the idea of adding buttons on the lace!!! How clever! Kisses, my friend.
