End of 2015 Stitching

Hi everyone and a very Happy New Year to you all.  I should have done this post days ago to complete my stitching for 2015 and include any one of these following small patterns as part of the December Smalls SAL.........but somehow the time just disappeared and I woke up to find that we are now in January.

I expect everyone has seen on various blogs these past weeks this free design of the Twelve Days of Christmas offered by Paulette Stewart at the The Plum Street Samplers and which I decided to stitch as a table runner.

I chose these DMC colours and had to use 40ct linen as my local shop didn´t have a lot of choice and no 28 or 32 ct.  I started out OK but...

With several designs stitched, I realised I didn´t like the colours, but there was no turning back and I did find a pretty trim that I thought might help me like the work more.

With a strip of fabric added between patterns and the trim sewn in place, I started to like the table runner a bit more.

and with a rush, I managed to finish it in time for Christmas but still not happy with the colours and as nobody seemed to notice  or comment on it at home, I think this table runner will be put away indefinitely.

Thanks for passing by, always grateful for your visit and comments.  until next week.

Sheryl

  1. Happy New Year Sheryl. I think your runner is lovely, but I know it's disappointing when you put so much time and effort into something, and then aren't totally thrilled with it in the end. Perhaps "absence will make the heart. grow fonder"and next December when you see it again, you'll like it better. Best wishes for a wonderful stitching year ahead!

  3. Your work is beautiful! Is the red just not red enough, or what is it that you don't like about the colors? I think it is wonderful, and I like the lace accents. I hope Linda is right (first commenter) and after putting it away for a while you'll like it more next year.

  5. Oh, dear! I am so sorry that you aren't pleased with the final look, Sheryl... it turned out great in my opinion :) I think it will appeal to you next year when you pull it out and I like the way you used the lace and fabrics to finish it off.

That is a lot of beautiful stitching to keep hidden away in a drawer, but I understand how you would feel if it doesn't hit you the right way. (And I guarantee no one in my house of men would notice or comment on anything newly stitched and displayed :)

  6. Such a shame to put it away and hide it. It is lively and so much work. Hopefully next Xmas you will like it better....

  10. Dear Sheryl,
happy new year and the tablerunner is gorgeous. There was one of your posts around Christmas that did not have anything with it. Just linked to your blogpage and sad nothing else. Maybe that was the tablerunner.
    Greetings,

  11. I think it's a beautiful finish. Always annoying when no one else takes notice after all that work, but I'm used to that for myself. Just water off a duck's back as they say. I would definitely show it again next year if I were you. Too pretty to look away forever.

  15. I think your table runner is great, and what a creative idea to finish it this way. I would say the colors are fine, very seasonal and the trim matches them perfectly.

  16. The table runner is gorgeous. If the colours aren't to your liking the runner hides that fact. It is a PERFECT Christmas piece ! I LOVE it.

  17. Your table runner is lovely :) It happens that sometimes the finished piece doesn't turn out the way we might have thought. I bring to notice to my people if they fail to appreciate:) whatever you create, you must treasure it, you always create lovely things.

  19. Your table runner is fabulous, Sheryl! I'm assuming you mean your actual "physical " visitors didn't comment, but remember not everyone appreciates the detail or time taken in creating cross stitch as us blogging friends do! Barbara xx

  25. Oh Sheryl, so sorry to read that the table runner didn't turn out the way you wanted it to be. I have to say that I find it very beautiful with the fabrics you chose and the wonderful lace you added. But I can understand you - sometimes we just aren't satisfied with something we made. And as the other commenters say, maybe it will grow on you when you see it again next year in December.
Have a wonderful crafty New Year, Sheryl!
