Fully Finished Gallery SAL - April

Hi Everyone,

Today I´m joining Rachel at The Ten Hour Stitcher for her Fully Finished Gallery SAL, where we give a complete finish to any neglected or uncompleted stitching.

I gave a new look to a hardanger design from Mabel Figworthy´s  Round in Circles SAL of a couple of years ago, making an elastic bookmark.

The pattern included some new stitches for me, corded bars, the French Fly stitch which is anchored with a French knot instead of a straight stitch and the central Guilloche stitch finished with seed beads and worked very unevenly on my part.

I had discarded my finished embroidery because it turned out too small and pale.  Unable to find the recommended 25ct fabric at the time, I had used 28ct and had chosen a green perlé thread far too pale to appreciate the speciality stitches.

Rescuing the pattern for this SAL, I placed some blue fabric underneath the cutwork instead of the original green and sorted out some trim, elastic and a crochet doily for backing.

This is the back view.
Now completed I can see that the beaded trim is a bit too overpowering for the pattern but at least it has given an attractive finish to the bookmark and will hopefully be useful.

Thank you for popping in and looking. Hope you will join me on the 19th for Jo´s annual Easter Treasure Hunt Blog Hop,
Sheryl

  10. Hi Sheryl.
A very nice idea, to make something new from an older motive. As a bookmark, it is ideal. Great finish.

  15. Beautiful stitching, Sheryl! Love the elastic, and the trim really suits it!
You’ve made a wonderfully pretty bookmark! Don’t forget which book it’s in!
I have a tiny stitched bookmark and I’m always losing track of it, unfortunately this time I think it’s really gone! I think it must have been in a library book.
    Hugs,
    Barbara xx

  16. What an original bookmark, Sheryl! I would have been sad to leave this embroidery unfinished. The beads and blue elastic compensate for the pale colours and revive the embroidery. Wishing you a nice weekend! Hugs!

  21. That just may be the prettiest and most delicate looking bookmark I have ever seen, Sheryl! How nice that you are finishing off older pieces. I'm trying to get some of my larger samplers done this year, too--no time like the present :) Enjoy your weekend ♥

  22. Oh, these colors are amazing (no bias :D)! I love bookmarks and have quite the collection but somehow always wind up using an old envelope haha. The crochet doily also looks like a perfect size for a dainty teacup coaster. Glad the pattern got redone into something so pretty and useful~

  28. A belated but big thank you for participating this month's SAL.
Your stitched finish is absolutely gorgeous, and the use of the doily and darker beads to frame the stitching are perfect for the bookmark. I hope you do lots of reading now to put this finish to good use! :)
