We live on the North coast of Spain and our summer temperatures are never very high but last week we had a heatwave and we had to travel inland to Leon where the temps are much higher... higher! - 38 deg. C...... I thought I might melt and in fear of that hunted about for the little fan I bought a couple of years back. Of course it needed a holder.
I found a lovely little blackwork design by Lesley Teare called `Blackwork Lady´ and decided to use DMC colours to match the fan
I added a few touches of applique to her head and to some flowers instead of the called for embroidery and added a couple of beads, - just love beads. I backed the holder with purple velvet and lined it with the purple satin.
As always I didn´t use the fastening that I want because I can´t find a shop that has small pretty snap fasteners, only large dark ones, so at the moment I have used a small transparent snap until I find the ones I want.
Thank you for passing by, see you next week.

ReplyDeleteSHe is beautiful. Your work is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh, so great, your fan holder. The lady on it looks really delicate, a real beauty.
ReplyDeleteI hope that your temperatures are also down for a couple of days like ours. I just needed that for a little bit of breathing and shivering in the morning when going out onto the terrace. With all the heat here I had already forgotten how great it is to shiver a bit, lol.
That is exquisite!!
ReplyDeleteOh, so lovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteGreetings!
I'm in love with that piece and the fan too! You have such great ideas for enhancing these patterns and adding your own touches. Clear snaps seem perfect to me and the little rose button hides the snap anyway. Velvet and satin... couldn't be more elegant!
ReplyDeleteWow Sheryl - firstly that was clever to think of making a holder for your fan (such a pretty fan too), but the case is just stunning!!! And for some reason I had it in my head you lived in UK - not Spain, so I'm glad you set me right there lol
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Perfect for your fan.
ReplyDeleteYour fan holder looks so beautiful and the stitching is very artistic:) I liked the way you added appliqués and flowers etc. you are very creative :)

ReplyDeleteAs your blog !!!!
Have a cool weekend !

What an elegant little pouch to hold a very pretty fan. Hope it cools off soon. We are expecting a hot weekend with high humidity. I might just have to find my fan!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a beautiful pouch for that pretty fan. Wonderful work.
ReplyDeleteI love all the elements you've added to this piece, Sheryl--she looks so very elegant!
ReplyDeleteMy brother's family is spending 3 weeks in southern France and Italy and they are just about melting! Europe is certainly experiencing one giant heat wave. And here, we are getting nothing but rain and gray skies and much cooler temperatures--it seems more like autumn!
she is really lovely, beautiful stitching and gorgeous colours

ReplyDeleteI love your pretty fan, but the holder you made is exquisite! Your sewing and beading is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful case you've made for that gorgeous fan! I love all the extra details you added. The applique and the beading all add to the beauty of the cross-stitch. It will make using that fan feel extra special and more than just something to help keep cool.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the temperatures have cooled down now.
