I have been away most of the month but have managed to finish my Language of Flowers sampler in time to join Mary of Mary´s Thread for this month´s Smalls SAL check-in.
Last month I had trouble finishing this embroidery because the lacey white border around the design didn´t show up well on the colour fabric I had chosen. I tried a brighter white floss and even tried using two threads instead of the recommended one, but I wasn´t pleased with the results...
and in the end I unpicked all the border that I had stitched - which nearly killed me - and embroidered something quite different, flowers of course.
Just small blobs of colour and I added Ursinia for the letter `U´ which I had mindlessly stitched although not included in the chart.
I thought I had a suitable frame knocking about in the garage and I found it, perhaps painted in another colour?
Well no ...it´s done now but I liked it better before painted, sigh. I have to find a place to hang the sampler.
If anyone would like to stitch this chart, let me know in a comment below and I will pass it on. I won it in a draw last year organised by Kaye of Kitten Stitching.
I am also working on making some patchwork kitchen curtains with odds and ends from my stash, this is my work so far.
Thank you for stopping by and looking.
Sheryl
Such a lovely delicate piece, its not Small at all.Hope you are safe.
ReplyDeleteLove your stitching, love the frame. hugs Lynda Ruth
ReplyDeleteThe Language of flowers came out beautiful, it must have been disheartening to have to frog the white but I think the colorful flower border words even better. I think the green frame looks great with the stitch. I bet it will grow on you. I think the curtain is going to be so unique and pretty!!
ReplyDeleteJust so beautiful, I love it so very pretty .
ReplyDeleteI would love the chart if nobody else wants it .
I love the frame too.
Stay well and enjoy your week.
Lovely work, as always, Sheryl. I like the frame you painted with it.
ReplyDeleteYour Victorian Flowers sampler is just beautiful. I love the border you added. It is perfect! I like your frame too. Can't wait to see your curtains-looks like they will be very pretty! Thanks for joining the sal!
ReplyDeleteA shame you had to unpick the lacy pattern, but what a wonderful border you replaced it with! I love your casual explanation of “small blobs of colour”! It’s certainly the prettiest border I’ve ever seen! I love your green frame! I’ve bought a few frames from charity shops intending to paint them one day ..... alas that day has not come yet, but after seeing yours perhaps it will soon!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, your curtains will be beautiful!
And by the way I don’t call that small! 😄
Well done my friend!
Hugs,
Barbara xx

It's charming, and the green frame gives it a lightness of touch.

ReplyDeleteGreat work on the sampler - your version of the border fits it perfectly! Very curious about those kitchen curtains too, hope there'll be more to show soon.
ReplyDeleteHello Sheryl! Lovely work on your sampler. You always do the most beautiful work and I enjoy seeing it. It is so nice to be back with all of my stitching friends once again. I missed you. Have a lovely week. RJ@stitchingfriendsforever
ReplyDeleteLovely sampler and I really like your border. The frame is very pretty, the green makes it nice for the Spring or Summer season.
ReplyDeleteThe patchwork curtains look nice, hopefully a finish photo will be forthcoming soon.
Beautiful
ReplyDeleteIt turned out absolutely beautiful! The flowers you added are so much prettier than the lace, sorry you had to frog it though. The frame really makes it, nice find!
