Tusal check-in

Just a quick post as it´s June´s Tusal check-in and I´m two days late due to not having been able to take photos until today.   My ORT jar this month has been filled mainly with red threads from having stitched a lot on the Randje per Week SAL sampler.

Smalls SAL June - glasses case

Hello everyone,
I wasn´t sure whether my little crinoline lady made for this month´s Smalls SAL was valid or not as it is more applique work than embroidery.

  I started out with just an outline to embroider and thought that perhaps I´d add a piece of fabric for the dress but somehow it turned out all applique.

I decided to make the design into a glasses case and chose a red  fabric from my stash and used  a metal bag clasp and some beads to decorate.

and I made the inside lining with red velvet.

I think I needed to do a bit of sewing after all the cross stitching I did this month on the Randje per week thingy (seen in my last post) but my next Smalls SAL project will be just embroidery again. A very big thank you to all blogger buddies who have sent me kind comments, thoughts and wishes regarding my sprained ankle.  I hope this small set back will teach me to look where I´m going. ´cause you all know it is not easy to sit resting your leg with embroidery in hand all day long while watching DH vacuuming, washing-up, watering plants, making beds, etc. ¿¿
  

The secret of catching up

I found the Randje per week SAL (see sidebar) last month and thought I´d like to join in although the stitching had started at the beginning of the year with a couple of patterns being released each week until the end of the year.

  I didn´t want to wait another ten days for the recommended roll of  linen to arrive and started the cross stitch bands on a cream 28ct evenweave which I had on hand.  Not my ideal choice but I wanted to get started and shall make the sampler into a book or some such instead of a two metre roll.

Well this week I have caught up and I can tell you the secret of doing months of stitching in three weeks.  All you have to do is slip off a step, fall headlong and sprain your ankle.  All activity grinds to a halt and whilst you sit about with your bandaged foot propped up, you have plenty of time to work on Randje per week.

School Sale

Months ago, Carmen, an eleven year old student of mine who stays after class to learn a bit of needlework, asked me what she could make to sell at her school rummage sale to raise money for her four day end of term trip.  She was starting to learn to use my sewing machine and we decided on something easy and with straight seams.

She brought along some very pretty patterned fabric and I added a plain coloured one from my stash and we sorted out some scraps of trimming to add interest.

We decided to make a few easy pinkeeps.

She did the majority of the sewing and stuffing and I just helped sew up the seam openings made for the filling and stitched on the buttons.  As she was pleased with the result we went on to make more.

We made far more than shown here and when she got tired of sewing these colours we used another fabric featuring ducks which she found at home and I added a combining red.

Here is Carmen showing some of the pinkeeps Thirty were made in total and as the rummage sale was last Friday, I can report that they were all snapped up practically before the sale started.
